DHARAMSALA - A day after their Indian Premier League (IPL) match, the players of Kings XI Punjab and Deccan Chargers had an audience with the Dalai Lama at his official palace here, an official said Saturday.

“The players of the Kings XI Punjab and Deccan Chargers this (Saturday) morning met the Dalai Lama. It was just a courtesy call and the players stayed there for more than an hour,” Tenzin Taklha, the joint secretary at the Dalai Lama’s office, told IANS.

An official of Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) said IPL chief Lalit Modi accompanied the players.

Meanwhile, the Deccan Chargers team left the town after visiting the Dalai Lama’s palace at McLeodganj near here.

The Dalai Lama would be chief guest for Sunday’s IPL match between Chennai Super Kings and Kings XI Punjab at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association (HPCA) stadium.

One of the newest venues in the country, the stadium is situated nearly 4,000 feet above sea level and surrounded by the majestic Dhauladhar range that make it one of the most beautiful grounds in the world.
