HARIDWAR - Haridwar will see holy men holding religious discourses to enlighten devotees of the ill effects of global warming during Kumbh Mela.

Thousands of holy men, seers are expected to converge here to offer rituals and take holy bath in Ganges.

The occasion will be utilised for propagating global warming as well.

“The results which the government could not bring in I hope the holy men through their teachings would be able to do, they will be able to make an impact on the minds of the devotees. During the Kumbh, revered spiritual leaders will be congregating here and I would request them to use this opportunity to enlighten the devotees about the various connotations of global warming,” said Swami Ragvendra.

Some of the holy men who are aware of the pollution created during this time have decided that they will only take bath in the running water of Ganges.

“Our committee has decided that for our rituals during the Kumbh we will not bathe in standing water, unless the water is flowing we will not take bath in that,” said Mahant Gyan Das, president an organisation of a Hindu sect.

A bath at Haridwar, during the Kumbh Mela is considered most auspicious. Hindus believe that bathing in the sacred river washes away their sins, speeding the way to the attainment of nirvana or the afterlife. (ANI)
