BHOPAL - Yoga guru Baba Ramdev Sunday said efforts should be made to reform the Maoists and if they still do not return to the mainstream then law should take its own course.

Talking to a group of journalists on way to Itarsi town in Madhya Pradesh, Baba Ramdev said that the Maoist problem was the result of the neglect of some areas, most parts of which were mineral rich.

He suggested that the government should put in half of the money earned from the minerals for the development of local people to solve the problem.

“If law and order problems persist even after this, the government should treat the Maoists as terrorists and accord them the same treatment which the terrorists deserve,” Ramdev said.

To a question on the punishment for the Bhopal gas tragedy accused, he said that capital punishment or life term be given to those responsible for the world’s worst industrial disaster.

Ramdev also criticised union Home Minister P.Chidambaram for giving a “wrong statement” over the alleged firing on the founder of Art of Living Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, saying that the police version that fire was opened to scare wild dogs was not acceptable and added that Ravi Shankar’s silence over the matter should not be treated as his weakness.
