100th Anniversary of Mother Teresa’s Birthday Celebrated Today

NEW YORK (GaeaTimes.com) — Today is 26th August, 2010, the 100th Anniversary of Mother Teresa. People all over the world will remember this day for the devoted service and love she has given to mankind. The Missionary of Charity holds the legacy of Mother Teresa even today. It was founded in the year 1950 to look after the poorest of the poor people around the globe.

Mother Teresa was born on 26 August 1910. Her real name is Agnes Gonxha Bojaxhiu. She was a Catholic nun of Albanian ethnicity and Indian citizenship. Later, in her life she came to Kolkata and settled there. She had first been recognized by the Indian government when she was awarded the Padma Shri Award in 1962. In 1972, she also received the Jawaharlal Nehru Award for International Understanding. In 1980, she got the Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian award.

In New Delhi, President Pratibha Patil will preside over the public ceremony in the memory of Mother Teresa. Sister Prema is the 2nd superior general after Mother Teresa’s death in 1997. She will address the gathering. At the end of the gathering, a commemorative coin will be released in her name.

A comic book about Mother Teresa will also be released by Amar Chitra Katha today. We all remember Mother Teresa and honor her deeds in favor of mankind.
