New Delhi (GaeaTimes.com) — Vishnu Sahasranama is a famous mantra, dedicated to Lord Vishnu. Vishnu Sahasranamam consists of the 1000 names of Lord Vishnu. We found two versions of the popular manta - one in the Mahabharata and other in the Padma Purana.
Vishnu Sahasranamam was sung by MS Subbulakshmi. It became one of the most popular devotional songs as sung ever.
Madurai Shanmukhavadivu Subbulakshmi was born on September 16, 1916 in the temple city of Madurai. She is popularly known as Nightingale of India. The name was given by Sarojini Naidu, for her extraordinary melodious voice.
MS Subbulakshmi received many honours and awards including Padma Bhushan in 1954, Sangeetha Kalanidhi in 1968, the Padma Vibhushan in 1975, the Indira Gandhi Award for National Integration in 1990, and the Bharat Ratna in 1998 and many more.
