KANPUR, INDIA (GaeaTimes.com)- Navratri is a festival that is celebrated in various parts of India amidst enthusiasm and gusto by the religious people. The festival draws a large crowd to the major places where temples are situated and this forces the administration to beef up the security and police patrol to avoid incidents of violence and theft. The rising terrorist attack threats on festive occasions have put the police in Kanpur in high alert where Navratri is celebrated with aplomb each year. The major temples like the Vaibhav Laxmi Temple, Tapeshwari Temple as well as Baradevi Temple and their surrounding areas have been kept under strict vigil to avoid any mishap. The administration wants to ensure Navratri 2010 remains a problem free festival.
At the Tapeshwari Temple entrance metal detector has been fitted to thwart miscreants from entering with weapons. Besides, a barricade has been put on the road that leads to the temple to control the rush of the devotees who gather in huge numbers. A special camp is likely to come up in a place near the temple where people can register complaints about lost children and relatives during the Navratri 2010 festival.
The Kali Mathiya Temple has got CCTV cameras to beef up the surveillance on the devotees. Earlier, the security was never so stringent at devotional places but for Navratri 2010, the enhancements that have been implemented are unprecedented. A lot of volunteers would be deployed at each of the temples to prevent any untoward incident as it has been reported.
