Madurai Meenakshi Temple Celebrates Thirukalyanam

TAMIL NADU, INDIA (GaeaTimes.com)- Madurai Meenakshi Temple (Meenakshi Amman Temple) shall witness the angelic marriage of Lord Sundareshwara and Goddess Madurai Meenakshi in the grand Thirukalyanam event to be held on April 25. Madurai Meenakshi Temple happens to be one of the largest temples of Tamil Nadu which hosts the divine marriage of Lord Sundareshwara and Goddess Meenakshi in the Madurai Meenakshi Temple each and every year following the Chithirai Brahmotsavam Festival that is held in the Chithira month. The divine wedding is the biggest of all festivals in the Madurai Meenakshi Temple.
As per the elements of mythology, Lord Sundareswar who is believed to be an incarnation of Lord Shiva had appeared on earth to marry Goddess Meenakshi. Goddess Menakshi is believed to be an incarnation of Parvati who had taken the shape of a new born babe who grew up to be a beautiful girl. Lord Siva appeared on earth as Lord Sundareshwara to marry Meenakshi, that is said to be the greatest wedding ever witnessed. The divine wedding held at the Madurai Meenakshi Temple had Lord Indra blocking the path of Lord Vishnu which angered him and he vowed that he would never step in the Madurai Meenakshi Temple. However, owing to the request from all other gods he finally stepped inside to bless Sundareshwara and Meenakshi.
Following the same traditional note, the worshippers of the temple and the priests all come together to celebrate the grand union of Sundareshwara and Meenakshi in the Madurai Meenakshi Temple. Madurai Meenakshi Temple witnesses heavy crowd on this day as people from different parts of the town flock together to witness the grand ceremony.
