ROME (GaeaTimes.com)- Despite facing severe criticism from a section of the media over his inaction over sex abuse charges leveled against some priests, Pope Benedict XVI remains defiant and he said recently that such charges will not be able to intimidate him. The Pope started his special Palm Sunday address by saying that Christ has given him courage which overpowers such intimidations. He did not mention his dealing of the cases of priests who were accused of child molestation when he used to serve as Munich’s Archbishop. The Palm Sunday is celebrated to mark the Christ’s entry to Jerusalem and it also marks the beginning of the Holy week of Church. The events like Good Friday and Easter Sunday follow it.
The Vatican officials claim that the pope has spent a lot of his life in fighting clerical sex abuse scandals. He met with several victims of church related molestation in the USA two years back. He wrote a pastoral letter to the Irish bishops when he termed sexual abuse as heinous crime. The problems for the Vatican are far from over. Some reports even claim that the Pope allowed Father Peter Hullermann, a priest known for child molestation habit to resume work after receiving treatment. The Palm Sunday speech of the Pope had no mention of these touchy topics.
While the Pope showed a sternness in his Palm Sunday speech, the Vatican officials were busy defending the actions of Pope that have put him under media glare. The Vatican has vehemently denied that celibacy practiced by the Priests may lead them to pedophilia.
