5,000 Sikh pilgrims to reach Pakistan Sunday

LAHORE - Five thousand Sikh pilgrims are due to arrive at the Wagah border by the Samjhauta Express Sunday to visit their sacred shrines in Pakistan on the occasion of Baisakhi.

The arriving pilgrims would be received by chairman of the Gurdwara committee, Sham Singh, and other senior officials of the Board of Evacuee Trust, Online news agency reported.

The festivities at the historic Panja Sahib gurdwara, starting Monday, would carry on until Wednesday - Baisakhi day. The pilgrims will return to India April 21.

Evacuee Board chairman Syed Asif Hashmi has ordered all necessary medical, travel, lodging and security arrangements for the pilgrims.

A contingent of Rangers would accompany the pilgrims for their security.
