NEW DELHI - The Delhi High Court has upheld the election of the office-bearers of Haj committee which coordinates the visit of Indian Muslims to the annual pilgrimage to Makkah and Madina in West Asia.
The Haj committee is administered by the ministry of external affairs under a parliamentary act. The ministry holds annual elections to the committee.
On March 10, Congress leader and Rajya Sabha member Mohsina Kidwai was elected chairperson of the committee. But, the election was immediately challenged in a writ petition in the high court, along with the election of two vice-chairpersons of the committee.
“A division bench of the high court Aug 25, after hearing both parties, dismissed the petition and also upheld the election of the chairperson Mohsina Kidwai and two vice-chairpersons held March 10,” said a press release issued by the ministry.
