Blasphemous cartoons in Oslo daily irk Pakistan parliament

ISLAMABAD - The National Assembly, the lower house of Pakistan’s parliament, Wednesday passed a resolution condemning the re-emergence of blasphemous cartoons in a Norwegian newspaper.

The resolution demanded that the UN take strict and exemplary action against the publisher of the Aftenposten newspaper for reproducing the cartoons.

The daily newspaper had Friday published reproductions of the blasphemous cartoons, one of which is thought to have led to an attack on its Danish author Kurt Westergaard earlier this month.

In an article on Westergaard, the daily printed small versions of six of the 12 drawings that infuriated Muslims around the world when Danish newspaper Jyllands-Posten first published them in 2005.

The National Assembly termed the reproduction of the cartoons a blasphemous act meant to provoke the Muslim Ummah and demanded exemplary action against the newspaper to preserve inter-faith harmony in the world.
