PATNA - Residents of Bihar celebrated Makar Sankranti Thursday with traditional fervour. Local politicians joined the festivities gorging on traditional food items, including chura, yogurt, tilkut, and khichri.

Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, his political rivals Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad, his wife Rabri Devi and Lok Janshakti Party chief Ram Vilas Paswan celebrated the festival.

Nitish Kumar, along with several present and former ministers, legislators and parliamentarians joined a feast of dahi-chura-tilkut at ruling National Democratic Alliance office here to celebrate the festival.

Former parliamentarian and senior Janata Dal-United leader Vashisht Narain Singh organised the feast for the first time in Patna. Singh was known for holding such feasts in New Delhi for the last 10 years to mark Makar Sankranti.

Lalu Prasad was seen helping Rabri Devi in serving dahi-chura to party leaders and others at their residence.

Paswan visited the Lalu-Rabri residence to celebrate the festival, a leader close to Paswan said.

Congress leaders, including state president Anil Sharma, also organised a small feast here for party workers.
