Security in and around Delhi temples beefed up

NEW DELHI - Barricades, door-frame metal detectors have been set up and a large posse of policemen has been positioned in and around temples in the national capital on the eve of Ram Navami Thursday.

“We have taken adequate measures to prevent any untoward incident in the capital. At various places, closed circuit television cameras (CCTV) have been installed to monitor all activities,” a senior police officer said. The officer, however, denied any terror threat.

According to the police officer, all the reserve police force, personnel from police stations as well as central paramilitary force troopers have been put on duty for security of temples. At some temples, personnel of private security agencies are assisting policemen.

“Bomb disposal squad, sniffer dog squads and quick reactions teams have been asked to remain on high alert. We are also requesting people to sound an alarm in case they come across any suspicious person or object,” the officer added.

Thousands of people throng temples for prayers on the occasion of Ram Navami.
