President, vice president greet nation on Buddha Purnima

NEW DELHI - President Pratibha Patil and Vice President Hamid Ansari Wednesday greeted the nation on the occasion of Buddha Purnima Thursday.

“On the auspicious occasion of Buddha Purnima, I extend my greetings and good wishes to all our citizens,” the president said in her message.

“May the message of Lord Buddha inspire us to follow the path of truth and compassion and serve humanity to affirm our faith in the eternal values of non-violence and universal brotherhood,” Patil said.

Ansari said Lord Buddha’s teachings are relevant for emancipating mankind from suffering and to ensure peace and happiness in the world.

“I extend my good wishes to the people of our country on the auspicious occasion of Buddha Purnima, which is celebrated to mark the birth of Lord Buddha,” he said.

“Lord Buddha, through his divine life and teachings, showed us the path of non-violence, truthfulness, compassion and universal love. His teachings are relevant for emancipating mankind from suffering and to ensure peace and happiness in the world,” the vice president said.

“On this occasion, let us imbibe Lord Buddha’s teachings for promoting peace and happiness,” Ansari said.

Buddha Purnima, which falls on a full moon night in the month of Vaisakha, commemorates the birth anniversary of Lord Buddha.
