Rath Yatra 2010 Starts In Puri

CUTTACK (GaeaTimes.com)- Today is an auspicious day for the millions of devout and religious Indians who have gathered at Puri to take part in and witness the Rath Yatra 2010. This is a holy event that takes place annually in various parts of the country but the Rath Yatra in Puri is the one that witnesses maximum footfall. The religious Indians gather in the city from various parts of the country to witness the yatra in which the idols of Lord Jagannath, Balaram and Subhadra are taken on a chariot voyage amidst millions of viewers. To manage the huge crowd that has flocked to Puri already the East Coast Railway has made arrangements for 63 special trains as it has been reported by the Divisional Railway Manager, Sanjib Garg.
A number of other trains have been extended and diverted to Puri to tackle the crowd during the Rath Yatra 2010. Extra ticket booking counters have also been opened at key stations to make thing easier for the pilgrims. To prevent any untoward incident during the rush the security in trains has been beefed up. At Puri and other key stations arrangements for sniffer dogs and metal detectors have also been made, as railway sources have reported. Special medical provisions have also been made for the passengers as a lot of passengers are quite aged and they may develop complications in the rush and exhaustion.
The Rath Yatra 2010 in Puri is being covered by various TV channels. The festival will last for a period of days starting from today, July 13.
