Iran slams US over Quran desecration

TEHRAN - Iran Monday blamed the US for supporting the outrageous act of desecrating the Quran, and asked the Muslim community to take action against it.
According to ISNA news agency, Speaker of Iran’s parliament Ali Larijani said in a message: “I warn the US administration to either end support for such a barbarous action or wait for Muslims’ crushing response.”
Larijani’s message came as some protesters in the US tore some pages from a copy of the Quran to denounce what they called the “charade of Islam” on the anniversary of 9/11 attacks Saturday.
The display was apparently prompted by Florida Pastor Terry Jones’ aborted plan to burn the Quran. Jones called off his threat in the face of international condemnation.
Larijani called for parliament speakers and lawmakers of Islamic countries to show a swift and firm reaction to the unprecedented crime.
“Today, the disgraceful defeat of the US Army in Afghanistan and Iraq and its failure to confront nations of Iran, Lebanon, Palestine and Pakistan has forced the US officials’ to conduct insane behaviours,” the speaker said.
“Insult to the Holy Quran is a barbarous action in modern era and those who claim they are advocating democracy and freedom have fuelled new wave of global hatred against the US through their silence towards insult to holy book of Muslims,” he noted.
