Boston Catholic newspaper now available on Kindle

BRAINTREE, Mass. — The Archdiocese of Boston is expanding efforts to reach out to younger and more tech-savvy Catholics by making its weekly newspaper available on Kindle.

Church officials announced Thursday that The Pilot is now available through Amazon’s Kindle e-reader and via an Apple iPhone application.

Archdiocese officials say the 181-year-old Pilot is the first Roman Catholic newspaper available through Kindle.

Later in August, an Apple iPad-specific application and a mobile-optimized website for improved performance on Blackberry and Android smartphones will be made available.

Cardinal Sean O’Malley says the latest efforts are part of the archdiocese’s efforts to bring its message to as many people as possible. He’s a Kindle user, too.
