NEW DELHI - Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) spokesperson Shahnawaz Hussain has condemned the move by a US pastor to burn copies of the Quran and asked the Christian community to “alienate such narrow minded people”.

The former union minister, the party’s lone Muslim face in the Lok Sabha, said the US authorities should prevent any such move by the Florida pastor, who is rethinking plans to burn the Quran after calling them off.

“The entire Christian community should come forward to protest against such narrow minded people. Such elements should be alienated. The whole world should stand against it,” Hussain, a Lok Sabha MP from Bihar, told IANS.

“America should take steps to prevent the burning of Quran copies. Otherwise it will give a wrong message to the world. Peaceloving people in the US should condemn it,” Hussain said.

President Barack Obama has joined other officials in the US to condemn plans by Terry Jones and his Dove World Outreach Centre church in Gainesville, Florida, to burn copies of the Quran Saturday to mark the ninth anniversary of the Sep 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.
