NEW DELHI - Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit Sunday appealed to children not to use firecrackers this Diwali and instead make it bright and colourful with diyas and rangoli for the festival celebrations Nov 5.

The message was published in various newspapers Sunday. Against a green backdrop, the message titled ‘Let the cracking good times come without firecrackers’, said: “For some years now we have celebrated a clean and pollution free Diwali. Let us, this year too, enjoy Diwali with diyas, rangoli, sweets and gifts instead of crackers.”

The message was put out by the department of environment.

In an appeal to children, Dikshit asked them to convince their family members, friends and neighbours to join the government in saying “no” to crackers.

“I am sure you do not want others and yourself to suffer,” she said.
