Obama to sign $600 million border security bill
WASHINGTON — President Barack Obama is signing a bill Friday to put more agents and equipment along the Mexican border.
The Senate passed the $600 million measure during a special session Thursday.
The border security measure would fund the hiring of 1,000 new Border Patrol agents, plus 250 Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents and 250 Customs and Border Protection officers.
In the evening, the president will host an iftar dinner celebrating the Islamic holy month of Ramadan in the White House State Dining Room. The iftar is the dinner that breaks the holiday’s daily fast.
White House dinners marking Ramadan are nothing new. Former President George W. Bush held iftars during his eight years in office.
